GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Shorter Women's Basketball team was picked to finish sixth by the Conference of the Carolina's in the preseason poll announced by the league this afternoon.
The Hawks received 155 points in the poll, placing just ahead of Barton (131) and Emmanuel (124). Francis Marion received the top spot, receiving 221 points with 11 first-place votes. Belmont Abbey followed with 199 points, as UNC Pembroke trailed with 192 points.
Three Hawks were named to the conference's players to watch list. Senior
Tori Smiley is looking to make an impact after her strong senior season, in which the guard out of Indianapolis, Indiana, averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals. Sophomore guard
Amiya Redus looks to capitalize on a solid freshman campaign in which she showcased her potential for the Hawks.
D'Naylah Williams rounds out the Hawks' players to watch. Williams, a transfer forward from Itawamba Community College, is coming off a solid sophomore campaign in which she averaged 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 57% from the field.
The Hawks are looking to replicate their success from last season, when they went 21-7 overall and 15-5 in conference. The Hawks' 18-win turnaround from the previous season proved to be the largest turnaround in the NCAA.
