ROME- Shorter University and Athletic Director
Marty Ziesemer are pleased to announce the hiring of Marcus Hunt as the next head coach to lead the Women's Basketball program.
"We are thrilled that Marcus is returning after a year away to become the next women's basketball coach at Shorter University. He will bring a renewed passion in leading the Hawk women's basketball team and investing in them as student-athletes. We look forward to having him as part of the Hawk coaching staff and a part of the Shorter University community".
"I am excited to be back at Shorter. I am thankful to God, the hiring committee, AD Marty Ziesemer, and Dr. Dowless for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to reconnecting with the campus and the Rome community, while positively impacting the lives of our student-athletes."
Hunt returns to Rome after serving the previous year as head coach at Clinton College. In his lone year with the Golden Bears, Hunt led them to an 8-13 record while going 4-6 in conference action. Prior to Clinton College, he served as an assistant at Shorter from 2022 to 2025. At Shorter, he played a pivotal role in the program's resurgence, highlighted by the first top ten ranking in the Division II era, a Southwest Division Championship in Conference Carolinas, and the largest single-season win increase in the NCAA during the 2024–2025 season. His efforts also produced multiple All-Conference players and consistent team academic success, including WBCA Academic Honor Roll recognition.
