ROME--The Lady Hawks fell to Valdosta State Saturday afternoon, 71-59. The loss drops Shorter to 5-10 on the season, and 3-6 in the Gulf South Conference.
Lynette Harris led the Lady Hawks, finishing the day with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. While also shooting 10-10 from the free throw line.
Maggie Peeples came in off the bench to add a season high 14 points, and
Ieshia Alexander chipped in with 12 points.
April Thomas finished with a game high 17 points for the Lady Blazers.
Valdosta State snapped a three game losing streak with the win and moved to 9-5 on the season, and 4-4 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Lady Blazers took the lead early in the first half, but Shorter kept close; tying the game three times during the frame. The Lady Hawks never found the go ahead, though, and Valdosta State built a lead that Shorter couldn't overcome leading by as many as 17 late in the game.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday, January 25, as they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on former SSAC rival Lee University for the first time since the Lady Flames joined the GSC. Tipoff is set for 3:00pm.Â
