Dahlonega, Ga.--Women's basketball fell to 1-3 on the season after dropping both of its games this weekend at the Nighthawk Classic hosted by the University of North Georgia. On Friday, the Lady Hawks fell to Georgia College 68-58, and Saturday host North Georgia topped Shorter 71-65.
During Friday's game, the Lady Hawks were led by
Karisma Boykin and
Ieshia Alexander as each recorded double-figures in points; Boykin with 20, and Alexander with 11.
Throughout the game Shorter fought back from deficits, tying the game four times, but each time the Cougars were able to pull ahead. The Lady Hawks went into the intermission down 38-28. As the second half began Shorter used a 15-4 run, to take the lead 43-42 with 15 minutes to play. However, Georgia College answered with a lay-up to take the advantage for good.
During the game Shorter shot 70% from the line, while also scoring 10 points from the bench and 16 off turnovers.
In Saturday's game, the Lady Hawks held a 32-30 advantage at the intermission, but North Georgia outscored Shorter 41-33 in the second half to bring home the win, 71-65.
Kristin Nash led the Lady Hawks with her first double-double of the season; scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Alexander chipped in with 10 points; she's scored at least 10 points in each of Shorter's games this season.
Both, Boykin and
Lynette Harris recorded 9 points in the game.
The Lady Hawks shot 65% from the line, and scored 19 points on turnovers.
Women's Basketball will be back in action December 2 as Clark Atlanta visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a non-conference match up. Tipoff is set for 6pm.
