Box Score 2 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The Hawks battled hard in the opening day of the Lee Invitational, but would fall in both games Friday afternoon in a 9-0 loss to McKendree before falling to Palm Beack Atlantic in a 5-4 walkoff.
GAME ONE: MCKENDREE
The Hawks struggled to contain the Bearcats early, as they allowed two runs in the opening frame. McKendree continued to apply pressure on the Hawks, driving in another run in the second to extend their lead. The Bearcats continued to add on to their total, scoring four more runs as the Hawks fell in a 9-0 defeat in the first game of the afternoon.
GAME TWO: PALM BEACH ATLANTIC
The Hawks were much more competitive against Palm Beach Atlantic. After the Sailfish tacked on three runs in the second and third innings, the Hawks finally got on the board as
Lizzy Mitchell scored on a wild pitch. Palm Beach responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth before
Alex Hollingsworth drove in a run to make it a 4-2 affair.
Shorter's bats stayed warm in the fifth, as
Lizzy Mitchell and
Zariah Webb each drove in runs to even the score. The Sailfish responded with a deep shot down center field to reclaim the lead before Webb tied the game with an electric RBI double in the top of the seventh. The Hawks battled hard in the bottom of the seventh, but Palm Beach connected on an RBI single to walk it off in the final inning.

UP NEXT
The Hawks will continue to compete in day two of the Lee Invitational tomorrow as they face off against Union at 11:00 AM before battling with University of Illinois-Springfield in the closing game at 1:00 PM.
