Softball Falls to Southern Wesleyan in Home Series Finale

ROME- The Shorter Hawks (13-34, 7-19 CC) fell to Southern Wesleyan (33-11, 21-4 CC) in their home series finale on Wednesday. The Hawks came up close in a 2-0 defeat in game one before suffering an 8-3 loss in game two. 


GAME ONE

The Warriors got on the board quickly with a solo shot in the top of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. Despite the quick shot from the Warriors, the Hawks continued to battle as Madison Bishop had a great day in the circle, going a complete seven innings, allowing just four hits, two runs, and five punchouts. The Hawks continued to battle, having runners on the corner in multiple innings, but failing to convert. 

The visitors broke the silence in the sixth with a run to make it a two-run lead. Shorter continued to fight, but could not get a runner across the bag, falling in a 2-0 final. 


Notable Performances: 

Madison Bishop: L (4-7), 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 K
Trinity Camp: 1-2
Alex Hollingsworth: 1-3


GAME TWO

Southern Wesleyan struck first once again with an RBI double in the opening frame. Shorter responded with a strong second inning as Alex Hollingsworth drove in two runners with an RBI single to give the Hawks the 2-1 lead. The Hawks continued to add on as Rylee Gattis followed immediately after with a hit that drove in Anna Sanders to make it 3-1 heading into the third. 


Shorter continued to hold out the Warriors for the next three innings. The Southern Wesleyan offense found life, driving in seven runs across the fifth and sixth inning to regain the lead. The big two innings from the Warriors would prove to be too much as the Hawks fell in an 8-3 defeat.

Alex Hollingsworth: 2-3, 2 RBI
Rylee Gattis: 2-4, RBI


UP NEXT

The Hawks will conclude their season on the road this Saturday as they travel to Bristol to face King in a doubleheader series beginning at 1:00 PM.
