ROME- After a successful opening weekend, the Shorter Hawks Softball team will travel to Chattanooga this weekend to compete in the Lee Invitational hosted by Lee University.
The Hawks will begin play on Friday, taking on McKendree University (12:00 PM) and Palm Beach Atlantic (5:30 PM) before closing out the tournament on Saturday by taking on Union University (11:00 AM) and University of Illinois Springfield (1:30 PM). All games will have live stats available via statbroadcast.
NOTES
- The Hawks started out the 2026 campaign on a high note, sweeping Lee in the doubleheader series last Friday with a 12-9 win in game one, followed by a tight 3-2 victory in game two.
- The bats were hot for the Hawks in game one, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first.
- Across both games, Alex Hollingsworth went 2-6 with four RBIs, and two runs.
- Katie Williams was also efficient, going 3-4 with a run and two RBIs.
- Hayden Joyner held her own in the circle in the second game, throwing a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out two.
- The Hawks downed McKendree in their lone match-up in 2019, defeating them 10-2 on the road.
- Shorter is 3-1 all-time against Palm Beach Atlantic, having not faced them since 2017 when they cruised to a 10-1 win.
- The Hawks are familiar with Union, being 14-10 all-time against the Bulldogs, falling 12-2 in the 2024 season.
- Shorter's game against UIS marks the first time either team has met.
