Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C.- The Shorter Hawks fell in the final minutes to North Greenville Saturday night in a 68-63 final.
Both teams struggled to convert from the field in the opening minutes of action as a defensive battle ensued.
Michael Johnson provided the Hawks with valuable minutes off the bench, putting Shorter in front 8-7 with a thunderous dunk. Numerous lead changes occurred between both sides, as the offense started to pick up.
Donovan Shangase got things going for the Hawks connecting on two threes to give the Hawks some spark. The Hawks continued to fight, as
Chris Bibbs ended the first half in style with a slam to cut the lead to two as the Hawks ended the first frame down 29-27.
Shooting woes for both sides followed them into the second frame as another slow start took place. The Hawks battled back with back-to-back transition buckets from Bibbs gave the Hawks the 39-37 lead at the first media break of the second half. Immediately following the media break, Bibbs continued to push the Hawks forward picking off a pass and jamming it down to extend the Hawk lead. The Hawks continued to push out in front, with Bibbs and Shangase leading the way with strong guard play to put Shorter ahead 53-47 with less than eight minutes to go. The hosts finally started to knock down their shots as they put the pressure on the Hawks late. The hosts would go on an 10-0 run in the final minutes to take the 65-61 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Hawks would get one more opportunity but could not convert as they fall in a tough 68-63 loss.

The Hawks will have a quick turnaround as they return to Rome on Monday to host Young Harris for an in-state showdown.
