Box Score FLORENCE, S.C.- The Shorter Men's Basketball team came up close Saturday afternoon to Francis Marion inside the Smith University Center in a 98-86 final. The loss drops Shorter's record to 1-3 overall on the season.
Shorter battled with the hosts early in the first half, with the Patriots having the early advantage.
David Compere helped bring some spark to the Hawks off the bench, scoring 10 points in the half on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. The Hawks regained the lead, going on an 8-0 run thanks to buckets from Compere and
Chris Bibbs. The hosts found their spark, closing the half on a dominant 20-7 run to take the 48-43 lead at the half.
The Patriots' hot shooting continued as the Hawks entered the second half, with Shorter falling behind 71-56 at the 12:48 mark. Shorter continued to fight, but could not get over the slow start as they fell in a 98-86 final.
The Hawks shot well as a unit going 33-for-68 (48.5%) from the field and 11-of-27 (40.7%) from three.
Chris Bibbs led all scorers with 26 points on an efficient 11-for-18 (61.1%) clip while pulling down ten rebounds.
Donovan Shangase had an all-around performance, finishing with 23 points, five rebounds, and nine assists.
David Compere rounded out the Hawks, finishing with a season-high 13 points off the bench.

Shorter will be back at home this Tuesday, where they will host Southern Wesleyan for their conference home opener at 7:00 PM.
