Box Score 2 Montgomery, Ala. --Â The Lady Hawks split the final day of the GSC Opening Festival; topping Christian Brothers 7-4, before falling to West Alabama 5-1.
With the split, Shorter moves to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the GSC; while the Lady Bucs move to 3-8 on the season and 0-3 in conference play, and the Tigers move to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in the GSC.
GAME 1 – SU 7, CBU 4
Against Christian Brothers, the Lady Hawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead heading into the final CBU at-bat; where they managed four runs to but the lead to three. Shorter opened its scoring in the fourth with three runs as
Tiffany Holland and
Carson Carriker provided RBI hits. Before adding to it in the fifth, with four, as
Maddie Hunt and Holland tallied run-scoring singles.
Lady Hawks' pitcher, Julie Sanderson had a no-hitter through six innings before the Lady Bucs tallied five straight hits to bring in four runs for the 7-3 final score.
Sanderlin moves to 2-0 on the season with the win, having allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Every starter tallied at least one hit, with Carriker turning in a 3-4 day with two RBI. Holland,
Lindsey Newell, and
Kiera Dudley each added two hits apiece.
GAME 2 – UWA 5, SU 1
West Alabama jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring once in the third. Before adding three in the fourth to make it a 4-0 game. The Lady Hawks then broke through for their only run of the game as
Taylor Martin tallied her third homerun of the season in the sixth to cut into the lead. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning with a run, to regain the four-run advantage and held on for the 5-1 win.
Hannah Draper took the loss; allowing three earned runs on five hits with three walks through four innings; while
Payton Lippert came in for the final two innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Holland finished 2-3 at the plate; while Carriker and Martin added a hit each.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at North Georgia; before traveling to Union next weekend for a three-game GSC series.
