Lester Miller became the second Hawk to earn Gulf South Conference Athlete of the Week for Track & Field this season as he earned Track Performer of the Week honors for his times at the Emory Invitational over the weekend.

En route to the award, Miller bested the field in the 100m in a time that bettered the NCAA DII Provisional mark for the distance, when he crossed the line in 10.41 seconds Saturday afternoon.

Before, finishing 11th overall in the 200m in a time of 22.61 seconds. And helping the Hawks' 4x100m relay squad to a second-place finish in a time of 41.22 seconds.

His 100m and the team's 4x100m time are the best in the Gulf South this season, while the 100m time is second best in DII.

This week also marked the first official U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII Outdoor rankings of the year with the Hawks coming in at No. 8.

The rankings are compiled using a mathematical formula based on the NCAA DII Descending Order Lists, using only the current season's marks as consideration when ranking teams. The points accumulated don't equate to points that will be scored at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championship, but create an index that showcases the teams that have best potential of achieving the top spots in the race at the national meet.

Chico State is first with 281.27 points, while Academy of Art (130.01) and UC San Diego (122.60) round out the top three. Shorter posted a total of 97.86 in the system; while fellow GSC member, Lee, ranked 11th with a score of 96.59.

Miller and the Hawks are back in action Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, at the Emory Classic in Atlanta.
