Due to the forecast for rain this weekend in Valdosta, baseball and softball's series at Valdosta State have been moved to Friday-Saturday rather than Saturday-Sunday.
First pitch in Friday's single game for softball is set for 4:00pm, with baseball set to start at 6:00pm from Blazer Park. Saturday's doubleheaders will each begin at 1:00pm.
Softball enters the series with an overall record of 12-8, and a 7-5 conference mark; while the Blazers also enter with a 7-5 GSC record, they are 17-6-1 overall and ranked 17
th in NCAA DII in the latest NFCA Coaches' Poll.
The Hawks travel to Valdosta with the league leader in batting average and on base percentage in tow, as
Niki Cook boasts .492 and .563 averages, respectively.
Kendall Johnson and
Kameron Carter bring a team leading 15 RBI to the table, while Carter has given Shorter 4 of its 5 homeruns on the season.
Taylor Ann Oda, who has gotten the start in each of the last four games at catcher, has reached base in each game including tallying her first hit of the season with a triple at Florida Tech. That game also served as her first career multi hit game, as she also recorded a double. Â
In the circle for Shorter will be three of the league's top pitchers as
Payton Lippert,
Kalei Kimbrell, and
Hannah Draper each rank in the top ten in ERA. Lippert leads the charge for the Hawks with a 1.48 ERA in ten games, while turning in a 5-5 record.
Baseball enters the series with a 10-10 overall record and a 4-5 conference mark and is coming off a GSC sweep of Mississippi College. Valdosta enters with an 11-9 record, while also entering with a 4-5 record in conference play.
Dustin Lawson is the Hawks leader in average; having gone 28-61 (.459) at the plate this season with eight doubles, two homeruns and 17 RBI. While,
Blaze Vazquez has been the power for Shorter; tallying a team high eight homeruns – including a grand slam at Lincoln Memorial this week – and a .321 average with 23 RBI.
