Box Score ROME--The Lady Hawks topped North Alabama, 4-1, to win the series and capture the Gulf South Conference regular season title for the second straight year. Shorter concludes the regular season with a 36-10 overall record and a 22-5 conference mark.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Kaylee Jones hit a solo homer to give the Lions the lead, 1-0. In the bottom of the inning, however, the Lady Hawks rallied and took the lead.
Maggie Meachum led off the inning with a bunt single, stole second, and reached third on a sacrifice fly from
Kayla Cooper. With two outs,
Jackie Castaneda was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners for
Felicia Morris; who capped off senior day with a 3-run blast to give Shorter the lead, 3-1.
In the sixth, the Lady Hawks plated an insurance run as
Tori Etheridge – pinch running for
Sarah Corn; who singled earlier in the inning – for the, 4-1, final score.
Christina Ezell earned her 18th win of the season, with a complete game gem. Over seven innings she allowed one run on three hits with twelve strikeouts. BreeAnna Blevins recorded the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts through six innings.
The Lady Hawks will now turn their attention to the National Christian College Athletic Association as they host the South Region tournament at Alto Park May 6-7.
