Box Score ROME--The Lady Hawks completed the three game sweep of Delta State with a 7-0 win over the Lady Statesmen Saturday afternoon.
The win improves Shorter to 34-9 on the season and 20-4 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Lady Hawks took the lead in early as two runs scored in the first inning; first as
Kayla Cooper scored on a throwing error by the right fielder, and then on an RBI double from
Paige Rowland. Shorter added to the lead in the second on an RBI single from
Jackie Castaneda. In the fifth, Cooper homered to make it a 4-0 game, and Castaneda homered in the sixth to plate Cooper and
Kendall Johnson.
Christina Ezell earned the win with a complete game, five hit shutout; with six strikeouts. Kaitlin Moore recorded the loss for Delta State; allowing seven runs – four earned – on eleven hits with one strikeout over six innings of work.
Castaneda picked up where she left off Friday; recording two hits and driving in four runs to give her a series total of nine hits and six RBI against the Lady Statesmen. Rowland posted three hits and an RBI, and Cooper finished the day with two hits and an RBI.
Shorter will be back in action next weekend as North Alabama visits Alto Park for a three game series.
