Box Score ROME--The Lady Hawks came up just short Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 2 Alabama Huntsville, 5-4.
The loss moves Shorter to 16-8 on the season, and 8-3 in conference play.
In the second inning the Lady Hawks took the lead 3-0 as
Tori Etheridge singled to plate
Ericka Bynum and
Kendall Johnson 2-run double brought in Etheridge and
Sarah Corn. But, the Chargers scored five times in the fourth to make it a 5-3 game. Shorter got back to within one in the fifth when
Kayla Cooper scored, but they couldn't plate the go ahead despite loading the bases with no outs in the sixth.
Whitney Toler earned the win for UAH, allowing no runs on two hits.
Christina Ezell recorded the loss for Shorter; allowing five runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts.
Both,
Jackie Castaneda and Johnson recorded three hits on the day; while
Maggie Meachum,
Felicia Morris, and Corn all delivered two hits.
Shorter will be back in action Wednesday afternoon at Alto Park for a doubleheader with Young Harris College. Games are set to begin at 3pm.
