Box Score 2 Greeneville, Tenn.--Shorter softball extended its win streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Tusculum College Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Hawks earned the win, 4-3, in both games.
The wins improve shorter to 13-6 on the season, while Tusculum moves to 10-12 overall.
In game one, the Lady Hawks scored twice in the third inning to take the lead.
Maggie Meachum reached base on a double, and came around to score on a single from
Felicia Morris.
Jackie Castaneda; who had singled earlier in the inning moved to third on the play, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by
Paige Rowland.
Tusculum cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on a single, and took the lead in the fourth as two runs scored. Shorter tied the game in the sixth and Rowland single to plate Castaneda, and earned the win, 4-3, on an RBI double from Meachum in the seventh.
Kalei Kimbrell earned the win for the Lady Hawks in game one; allowing no runs on no hits with four strikeouts through three innings of work in relief of
Maddie Bray. Bray, pitched four innings, allowing three runs – two earned – on seven hits.
Shorter took the lead 2-0, in the first inning of game two on a 2 RBI single from Rowland. In the bottom of the inning, Tusculum plated three runs to go ahead. The Lady Hawks tied the game in the fifth as Morris doubled to bring in
Kendall Johnson, and earned the win in the six as
Sarah Corn connected on an RBI single to plate
Ericka Bynum.
Christina Ezell earned the win for Shorter, allowing no runs on two hits with ten strikeouts over four innings of relief work.
Morris finished the day with five hits and two RBI, and both, Castaneda and Rowland finished with three hits.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Thursday, March 6, as they travel to Bristol, Tenn. for a doubleheader with King University. Game times are set for 1pm & 3pm.
