Bynum leads Lady Hawks over Lee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROME--Softball swept the first two games of a three game series with Lee University on Saturday; winning the first game, 7-5, and taking game two, 7-1.

The wins improved the Lady Hawks to 21-9 on the season, and 11-4 in conference play. Lee falls to 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the Gulf South.

The Flames took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, on a 3-run homer from Ana Coscorrosa, but Shorter answered in the bottom of the inning as Ericka Bynum smashed a 3-run homer of her own to tie the game.

In the third, the Lady Hawks went up, 5-3, as Jackie Castaneda scored on a wild pitch and Bynum scored on Christina Ezell's sacrifice fly. Shorter added some insurance in the sixth, with 2 runs. First, on and RBI double from Kendall Johnson, then on an RBI single from Felicia Morris.

Lee rallied in the seventh to plate two runs, for the 7-5 final score.

Ezell earned the win for the Lady Hawks; pitching the complete game, allowing five runs on six hits with ten strikeout and five walks. Angie Hughes recorded the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits with five strikeouts over six inning of work.

In game two, Coscorrosa's RBI single in the first gave Lee the lead, which would prove to be the Lady Flames only offense in the game.

Shorter put five runs one the board in the fourth to earn the win. Paige Rowland, Megan Christensen, and Gracie Ayers each reached base to start the inning, and then Maggie Meachum delivered a 2 RBI double to give the Lady Hawks the lead, 2-1. Once again Shorter loaded the bases; Morris then walked to bring in Meachum and make it a 3-1 game. One batter later, Bynum connected on a 2 RBI single to plate Castaneda and Kayla Cooper and give the Lady Hawks the, 5-1, lead.

In the sixth, Bynum delivered another 2 RBI double to give Shorter the win, 7-1.

Maddie Bray recorded the win for the Lady Hawks; allowing one run on eight hits with two strikeouts. Haley Clark recorded the loss for Lee; allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts over four innings of work.

Bynum finished the day with a total of four hits, a homerun, seven RBI, and two runs scored. Cooper finished the day with three hits on the day, while both Sarah Corn and Rowland recorded two hits.

Shorter will be back in action Sunday afternoon as they wrap up the series with Lee at 1:00pm; weather permitting.
