Lady Hawks sweep Young Harris

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROME--Shorter softball got back into the win column, after dropping a pair to Alabama Huntsville over the weekend, Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Young Harris. Game scores were 3-0, and 3-2, respectively.

The wins improve the Lady Hawks to 18-8 on the season.

Game one was all Shorter, as they topped the Mountain Lions 3-0 by way of the homerun. In the second, Paige Rowland homered, for the fifth time this season, giving the Lady Hawks a 1-0 lead.  And, in the sixth, Kayla Cooper went deep, on a two-run homer to straight away center.

Christina Ezell earned her tenth win of the season, allowing no runs on two hits with nine strikeouts. Brittany Henry picked up the loss for Young Harris, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Game two remained scoreless until the sixth inning when the Lady Hawks found their stride and plated two runs. Jackie Castaneda singled to lead off the inning, and Felicia Morris followed with a walk. With one out, Rowland plated both with a 2 RBI single.

The Mountain Lions tied the game in the seventh on back-to-back singles from Lindsey York and Taylor Beauchamp.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Hawks rallied to earn the win. Maggie Meachum and Castaneda both walked, and then Felicia Morris delivered an RBI single to seal the win, 3-2.

Kalei Kimbrell earned the win for Shorter after coming in to pitch in the seventh in relief of Maddie Bray. Kimbrell allowed no runs on two hits in one inning of work; Bray went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Brittany Olsen recorded the loss for Young Harris allowing one run on one hit in 0.2 innings of work.

Rowland finished the day with four hits and three RBI, Castaneda recorded three hits, and Cooper added two hits and two RBI.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they begin a three game series with West Georgia in Carrollton. Both days, Saturday and Sunday, games begin at 1pm.
