Box Score 2 ROME--The Lady Hawks, fresh off of a series win over Valdosta State last weekend, took to the field for the first time this season in front of the home fans at Alto Park Saturday afternoon and swept Christian Brothers. Game scores were 6-1, and 9-0, respectively.
The wins improve Shorter to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks took the lead early in the first game, scoring once in the first inning as
Felicia Morris scored on a single from
Paige Rowland.
The game remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when Shorter put up five runs. After an out to
Megan Christensen,
Maggie Meachum and
Kendall Johnson reached on back-to-back singles. One batter later,
Jackie Castaneda also singled bringing in Meachum. Morris followed with a fly out that brought in Johnson, and Rowland singled to put runners at the corners.
Ericka Bynum capped off the scoring one batter later with a 3-run homer scoring Champion, who pinch ran for Rowland, and Castaneda.
In the seventh, the Lady Bucs broke the shutout; scoring once.
Christina Ezell earned the win for Shorter; pitching the complete game, while allowing one run on three hits with twelve strikeouts. Kasey Beekman picked up the loss for Christian Brothers, allowing six runs on ten hits with two strikeouts in a complete game performance.
In Game 2, the Lady Hawks took the lead 2-0 in the third as Johnson delivered her first homerun of the season, scoring
Kayla Cooper. In the fourth, Christensen notched a 2-run homer of her own to make it a 4-0 game.
Shorter put up five runs in the sixth inning to earn the sweep. Castaneda singled to start the inning, Morris followed with a single, and Rowland walked to load the bases with no outs. Bynum's single one batter later scored two, making it 6-0 game. The Lady Hawks then loaded the bases again, and
Tori Etheridge reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Bynum. Meachum followed with a 2 RBI double to give Shorter the win, 9-0.
Kalei Kimbrell recorded the win for the Lady Hawks with a complete game performance, allowing no runs on four hits with one strikeout. Kylie Steagall earned the loss for the Lady Bucs, allowing four runs on four hits with one strikeout.
Shorter finished with 18 hits on the day; Rowland finished with four on the day, Bynum finished with three hits and five RBI.
The Lady Hawks will wrap up the series with Christian Brothers tomorrow, Sunday, February 23, at 1:00pm.
