Box Score 2 Pensacola, Fla.--Shorter softball dropped both games of a doubleheader with Southern Arkansas Saturday afternoon to open the season. Games scores were 3-1 and 5-4, respectively.
In game one, the Lady Hawks jumped out to an early lead scoring in the first inning as
Felicia Morris grounded out to first to bring
Kayla Cooper in from third. But, that was all the offense Shorter would muster in the game.
Southern Arkansas took the lead in the fifth on a two run homer from Maddie Dow, and added another run in their final at bat to earn the 3-1 win.
Christina Ezell pitched the complete game for Shorter allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 12.
Once again, in game two, the Lady Hawks scored first.
Kameron Carter put Shorter on the board as she scored on a fielding error in the third inning. In the fifth, Carter again came around to score, this time on a fly out from Cooper.
Paige Rowland's 2-run homer in the sixth gave the Lady Hawks the lead, 4-0. Â
Southern Arkansas answered in the bottom of the sixth with 5 runs to earn the win.
Kalei Kimbrell got the start for Shorter in game two; allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, with 7 strikeouts.
Shorter will wrap up the road trip tomorrow with a stop in Thomasville, Ga. to take on Thomas University in a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
