ROME--Shorter basketball kept things perfect Thursday night as both the Hawks and Lady Hawks topped the visiting Argos of West Florida. Shorter's women led things off with a 66-56 victory, followed by a 94-80 win for the men.
The win improves the Lady Hawks to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the Gulf South. For the Hawks, the win improved their overall record to 6-8 and gave them a 3-5 conference mark.
Shorter's women took the lead early in the game and didn't look back. During the opening frame the Lady Hawks led by as many as 13, with 
Maggie Peeples scoring all nine of her points before the break.
Kristin Nash led Shorter with 14 points in the game, both 
Ieshia Alexander and 
Lynette Harris chipped in with 13. 
Karisma Boykin finished the night with 5 points, while also adding 10 rebounds.
Jenny Menz led all scorers with 16 points in the game for the Argos (9-4, 4-3).
The Hawks picked up just where the Lady Hawks left off as 
Dedric Ware's 34 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds led Shorter's men over West Florida.
The Argos (3-10, 2-5) came from behind in the first half to tie the game at 35-35 with 2:32 on the clock, but Shorter answered 30 seconds later on a 
Derrick Martin dunk to make it a 37-35 game, and took the lead back for good. During the second frame, the Hawks pulled away; leading by 18 with 3:13 to play.
All in all, four Hawks finished with double figures; 
Brandon Pullman and 
Jordan Jacks added 15 points each, and 
Travis Jones recorded 11 points and 6 assists in the game. Jacks, also recorded his eighth double-double of the season by adding a team high 12 rebounds.
For West Florida, Ellis Young came off the bench to post a team high 25 points with 20 coming in the second half.
Shorter basketball will be back in action Saturday afternoon when Valdosta State visits the Winthrop-King Centre. The Lady Hawks are set to begin at 2:00pm followed by the Hawks at 4:00pm. Fans unable to attend can follow all the action at
