ROME--Both the Hawks and Lady Hawks fell to Union at home Wednesday night; Shorter's men dropped a 91-83 decision while the women fell 59-56.
The Lady Hawks fall to 3-5 overall, and 1-1 in conference play and the Hawks move to 3-5 on the season, and 0-2 in the Gulf South Conference.
Shorter's women kicked things off at the Winthrop-King Centre hoping to continue with the play they've showed of late. Riding a two game win streak, the Lady Hawks had a tough opponent in the Bulldogs (7-1). Union went on a 12-0 run to start the game, and Shorter didn't get on the board until 15:33 to play as 
Karisma Boykin netted a free throw. The Lady Hawks fought hard for the remainder of the half narrowing the gap, but the Bulldogs kept pulling head, and went into the intermission up 32-22.
In the second half, Shorter outscored Union 34-27; and cut the lead to a little as one, but the go ahead just wouldn't come. And, Union came out on top, 59-56.
Lynette Harris led the Lady Hawks with 14 points and 8 rebounds in the game. Boykin chipped in with 11 points, 
Kristin Nash turned in 9, and 
Ieshia Alexander added 8.
The Union women were led by Amy Philamlee and LaTesa McLaughlin; who scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Shorter's men rounded out the night looking for their first conference win of the season and hoping the fate would be different after dropping a heartbreaker to West Georgia Saturday. The Hawks got off to a fast start and quickly built up a nine point lead. Union was up for the challenge, and came back and tied the game a 22 each with 12:10 to play in the half.
Shorter, however, pulled ahead and led 45-41 at the break.
In the second half, Union came out of the gate quickly, mounting a lead that they wouldn't relinquish, leading by as much as 14 in the frame.
Each of the Hawks starters finished the game in double figures with 
Brandon Pullman leading the way with 20. 
Jordan Jacks added 17 points with 11 rebounds. 
Brock Rowan, making his first start of the season, scored 15 points in the game connecting on 4-6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-3 from the line. 
Travis Jones chipped in with 11 points, and Kurtis Woods added 10.
Union's Coreion Pearson led all scorers with 29 points in the contest.
The Hawks and Lady Hawks will be back in action Friday night from the Winthrop-King Centre against North Alabama. The women tip off at 6:00pm, and the men will follow at 8:00pm.
