Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.- The Shorter Hawks (15-24, 6-22 CC) fell in game one to Mount Olive (24-18, 16-12 CC) in a 12-6 defeat.
Mount Olive struck first, scoring three runs in the opening inning on an RBI single and a run-scoring double to take an early 3–0 lead. Shorter answered in the third when Micah Shipman stayed hot at the plate, driving in Isaiah Sims with an RBI double. Moments later, Wilmer Henriquez hit his 13th home run of the season—setting a new school record—to tie the game at 3–3.
The Trojans regained the lead in the bottom half with a two-run homer, but Shorter responded again in the fourth as Michael Barron launched a two-run shot to right-center, scoring Reece Newberry and evening the game at 5–5.
Mount Olive pulled away in the middle innings, scoring three runs across the fifth and sixth on RBI singles and adding another two-run home run to build a 10–5 lead. Shorter showed signs of life in the seventh when Newberry drove in Henriquez with a single, but Mount Olive answered with another two-run homer to secure a 12–6 win in the series opener.
