JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- The Shorter Hawks (15-27, 6-24 CC) fell on the road in their non-conference finale to Carson-Newman (28-17, 16-14 PBC) in a 19-9 final Tuesday afternoon.
After a quiet opening frame, the hosts took control across the second and third innings, scoring eight unanswered runs to take a commanding lead.
Reece Newberry breathed life into the Hawks with a three-run shot in the top half of the fourth to put a dent in the Eagles' lead.
Shorter continued to ride the heels of the Eagles, as the Hawks scored four more runs in the sixth on RBI from
Josh Tattershall,
Cameron Adams, and
Micah Shipman to make it 8-7 heading into the seventh. The Hawks, unfortunately, struggled to contain the bats of Carson-Newman, giving up 11 runs across the final three innings, falling in a 19-9 defeat.

Shorter will take the road one last time this weekend as they play game one of their series against Southern Wesleyan on Friday at 4:00 PM.
