Box Score 2 ROME- The Shorter Hawks baseball team fell Friday afternoon in their series opener to #22 Belmont Abbey in a 31-3 defeat in game one, followed by an 11-2 defeat in game two.
The Crusaders got on the board early, scoring four runs in the top of the first to take the early advantage. The visitors continued their streaky hitting, adding three more runs in the second. The Hawks battled but could not contain the Crusaders, who kept piling on runs as the game progressed. Shorter would fall in a 31-3 final
GAME TWO
The Hawks had a more competitive outing in game two. The Crusaders got on the board first with an RBI single before
Josh Tattershall scored on a wild pitch to even the score. Shorter would grab their first lead of the afternoon as
Drake Cobb launched a solo shot in the third to give the Hawks some much-needed spark. Unfortunately for Shorter, Belmont Abbey picked up where they left off in game one, scoring five runs in the fourth inning to take the 7-2 lead. Shorter continued to battle, but would allow four more runs as they fell in an 11-2 final.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will look to close out the series on a high note as they play game three tomorrow at noon.
