Box Score ROME, Ga.- The Shorter Women's Basketball team cruised to a 69-50 victory over Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night inside the Winthrop-King Centre to improve their record to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
The Lady Hawks started slowly in the first few minutes, trailing 6-2, but found their rhythm quickly. The game was close in the first quarter, and neither team could maintain a lead for more than two minutes. The Lady Hawks began to stretch the gap in the second quarter by going on a 16-9 run going into halftime.
The second half began, and the Hawks continued their hot streak, being up 45-31 with eight minutes to go in the third. The Hawks pushed their lead out further as the half moved along and did not look back as they cruised to a 69-50 victory.
As a whole, the Lady Hawks shot 47.5% from the field, 37.5% from behind the arc, and 58.3% from the free-throw line. Aijah Manning finished with 21 points,12 rebounds, and three assists off 9-for-16 shooting (56%) as well as going 3-of-6 from the charity stripe (50%). Amiya Redus rounded out the scoring effort for Shorter, recording 16 points and four assists off a respectable 50% from the field.
"Tonight, I challenged my team to defend", said Head Coach LaSheena Brooks."And I felt like there was buy-in from all. Holding a team to 50 points is impressive. This is a win that was needed to get us back on track as we prepare to take on Montevallo this weekend."
