DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.- The Shorter Wrestling team battled in the Lucha Open this Saturday, with
Riley Davis (174 pounds) placing third in the Silver Division,
Brayden Gibson (141 pounds) placing fourth, and
Jonathan Fogus (157 pounds) placing eighth.
Riley Davis went 3-1 across the day, competing well for the Hawks. Davis started the day with a 21-5 technical fall victory over Huntingdon in 6:34 before falling to Icon Wrestling in a 6-1 fall. Davis responded with back-to-back fall victories over Emmanuel and Missouri Baptist to secure third place.
Brayden Gibson went 4-2 across the day for Shorter, getting things started with splitting forfeit wins. Gibson earned a 5-3 decision victory over Georgetown, which was then followed by another decision victory over The Citadel. Gibson closed out his day with a fall in 4:56 over Kennesaw State to place fourth overall.
Jonathan Fogus battled in the 157-pound class, going 4-3 for the day. After dropping his first two matches, Fogus won three straight, beginning with a 3:56 fall over Appalachian State, a 7-6 decision victory over Life, and a 5:42 TF over Brewton-Parker. Fogus closed the day with a 17-2 5:00 fall victory over Keiser to place eighth overall.
UP NEXT
Shorter will have an extended break until December 7, when they host Montevallo at the WKC for their home season opener.
