Box Score 2 Livingston, Ala. --Â The Hawks dropped both games of the doubleheader at West Alabama Saturday afternoon; falling in the opener 3-2 and in the finale 4-0.
Shorter slips to 13-26 overall and 6-20 in Gulf South Conference play; while the Tigers improve to 28-11 on the season and 18-8 in the conference.
West Alabama took the lead in game one on an RBI single from Nick Delgado and added to it in the third as Delgado delivered a second RBI single. The Hawks, however, answered in the seventh with a run as
Dustin Lawson came in when
Jerry Liang hit into a fielder's choice. Shorter then tied the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from Gladden. The Hawks held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to move the game to extra innings.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 15th when Josh Willingham brought in Jake Bush on a fielder's choice for the game winning run.
Jacob Ramos took the loss for Shorter, pitching the final 4.1 innings; allowing one unearned run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Jacob Farmer pitched the first three innings of the game, allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Michael Weiksner and
Ryan Dolan pitched three and four shutout innings, respectively.
West Alabama got on the board in the fourth inning of game two when Mitch Holgate scored on an error. Luigi Mendez homered in the fifth to make it a 2-0 game, and Holgate homered in the sixth to bring West Alabama's advantage to 3-0, before Marcus Morrisette delivered a pinch hit single to bring in the Tiger's final run.
Tyler Cates took the loss for the Hawks; allowing three runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Lawson added two more hits in the game two.
Shorter will look to avoid the three-game sweep Sunday afternoon in the series finale beginning at 2:00pm.
