Dalton, Ga. -- The Shorter tennis teams closed out the regular season at Dalton State Saturday afternoon with the Lady Hawks turning in a 9-0 victory, while the Hawks fell to the Roadrunners 8-1.
Shorter's women finish the regular season with a 10-8 overall record and will enter this weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament as the 6-seed with a 6-4 conference mark. With the loss, Shorter's men finish with an 8-12 record for the season, while picking up the GSC tournament's 5
th seed with a 4-5 record in conference play. Both teams will open play at the tournament against West Alabama Thursday, April 14, in Montgomery, Ala.
The Lady Hawks swept all matchups against Dalton State in route to the 9-0 victory. Shorter's doubles pairs got things going turning in 8-2, 8-2, and 8-0 scores respectively. Before blanking the Roadrunners in singles play as well.
Ornella Frere topped Laura Winter 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles,
Agnes Brun earned the win over Gabbie Bordelon 6-0, 6-0 at number two, and
Cassandra Wennestrom topped Dani Sanchez 6-1, 6-0 at number three.
Daniela Chipe kept the streak going at number four, topping Lucie Lovinfosse 6-1, 6-1. And, was followed by
Monika Gredzinski's win at number five over Erin Schueman 6-0, 6-0.
Julie Rinderknech closed out the win for Shorter with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six over Katie Quast.
On the men's side, Dalton State took a 3-0 lead after doubles, winning each of the matchups. And, the Hawks lone win in singles play came at number two when
Jimmy Kerjouan topped Jose Ruda 6-1, 6-3.
Louis Tourtois fell to Edberg Espinoza 7-5, 6-3 at number one, Nikolay Nikiforov topped
Arthur Amat 6-3, 6-1 at number three, and
Patrick Sanders fell to Joe Bray 6-3, 6-1 at number four.
Robert Watson took a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Adam Hornby at number five, and
Arthur Tourlousse fell to Sebastian Dartnell 6-1, 6-2 to close out the day at number six.
