Hawks, Lady Hawks fall to West Florida

Pensacola, Fla. -- The nationally ranked West Florida squads proved too much for the Hawks and Lady Hawks Friday afternoon, as the teams fell 9-0 and 7-2, respectively, for their first Gulf South Conference losses of the season.

The Hawks even at 5-5 overall and 3-1 in GSC; while the Lady Hawks move to 7-5 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.

On the women's side Shorter saw wins in two matchups - one doubles and one singles. In doubles, Agnes Brun and Ornella Frere topped Kat Dikosavljevic and Dianna Vlad 8-4. While, in singles the Lady Hawks lone win came at number two as Brun defeated Vlad 6-4, 6-4.

At number three singles, Cassandra Wennestrom forced a third game winning the second 6-2. While, Daniela Chipe kept things close in the first game, falling 7-6 (7-3).

On the men's side, however, the No. 4 ranked Argos swept all sets to earn the sweep, 9-0. Louis Tourtois kept his first game of singles play close, but ultimately fell 7-5, before dropping the second game 6-3. Jimmy Kerjouan won the first game 6-3 over No. 22 Kenny Brasil, only to drop the second games by 6-4 and 10-4 final scores.

The Hawks and Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday morning as they take on Valdosta State in Valdosta, Ga.
