ROME, Ga. - Shorter's tennis teams both fell to the West Alabama Tigers, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon in Rome, Georgia.
Coach
Orville Adams' men's team is now 5-11, while the women are 8-8.
In men's action, Shorter took two of three doubles matches.
Talha Zubair and
Arthur Amat defeated Christopher Wood and Nicolai Jochamowitz, 8-4, at number two doubles, while the duo of
Patrick Sanders and
Robert Watson won their match at number three by an identical score.
Although they held a 2-1 lead heading into singles action, the Hawks dropped four of six matches to the Tigers. Shorter's two victories in singles play came at number three and number six. At the third spot,
Jimmy Kerjouan defeated Jochamowitz, 6-3 and 6-2. At number six, Watson defeated Prabh Bal, 6-2 and 6-3. Shorter dropped the match to the West Alabama men, 5-4.
The women's match was nearly identical to the men's contest. Shorter held a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to victories at number one and number three doubles.
Ornella Frere and
Agnes Brun won their match, 8-4.
Sicquena Sinclair and
Daniela Chipe won by an 8-5 score.
The Lady Hawks won at number two and three singles thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Brun over the Tigers Georgina Morral. Shorter's
Cassandra Wennestrom came from behind to defeat West Alabama's Evelyn Moreno. Taking two matches in singles play was not enough for the Lady Hawks as they were narrowly defeated by the Lady Tigers, 5-4.
Both of Shorter's squads return to Gulf South Conference action on April 2 when they travel to Alabama Huntsville. First serve between the Hawks and Chargers is set for 2 PM EST.
