ROME, Ga. - A day after falling to Gulf South Conference opponent West Alabama, the Hawks got back in the win column, defeating the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers, 8-1, in non-conference action.
Louis Tourtois and
Jimmy Kerjouan opened the match for the Hawks by defeating Morehouse's Everette Reese and Rasheed Slade, 8-5, at number one doubles. At number two, Shorter's
Talha Zubair and
Arthur Amat defeated the duo of Jabez Beazer and Justin Samples, 8-1. The Maroon Tigers won 8-4 at number three doubles, their only victory of the afternoon.
The Hawks swept all eight matches in singles play, dropping only one set. At number one, Tourtois defeated Reese, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7, while Zubair defeated Samples, 6-0, 6-1, at number two singles. Kerjouan won at number three, 6-0, 6-2. Amat and
Patrick Sanders won at number four and five, both by 6-1, 6-1 scores.
Robert Watson finished off the day by defeating Morehouse's Terrell Green as the Hawks won the contest, 8-1.
The win moves Shorter's record to 6-11. The team returns to conference play on Saturday at Alabama Huntsville. First serve is set for 2 PM EST from Huntsville, Alabama.
