The Shorter Hawks men and women's tennis squads both suffered setbacks at NAIA Auburn University-Montgomery Wednesday afternoon.
The Auburn Montgomery men are ranked second in the NAIA tennis top 25 poll, while the AUM women hold the top spot in their respective poll.
The Shorter men fell to the Warhawks 8-1, while the women fell by a 6-3 score.
In men's action, SU trailed the AUM men 3-0 after doubles play.
Louis Tourtois and
Jimmy Kerjouan fell at number one, 8-3. The Hawks
Talha Zubair and
Arthur Tourlousse also fell by an 8-3 score. At number three,
Patrick Sanders and
Robert Watson lost 8-0. Shorter's lone victory came at number two singles as
Talha Zubair defeated the Warhawks Matias Destefanis, 7-6 and 6-4.
The women fared slightly better than the men, taking two more matches, but falling to the NAIA's top ranked women's team, 6-3. The Lady Hawks took two match in doubles action.
Ornella Frere and
Agnes Brun defeated Paula Diaz and Anna Rudolfova, 8-3, at number one, while
Daniela Chipe and
Julie Rinderknech won at number three, 8-0, over Kelly Southwood and Celine Lenertz.
The Shorter ladies won one match in singles play when
Cassandra Wennestrom defeated Iris Verweijm, 4-6, 6-4, and 7-5.
The Hawks are now 5-8, while the Lady Hawks possess a 7-6 record.
Both squads return to action on Saturday when they travel to Florence, Alabama for a match against Gulf South Conference opponent North Alabama. First serve between the Lions and Hawks is set for 1 PM EST.
