ROME, Ga. - The Shorter Hawks men and women's tennis teams fell to the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The men fell to the 18th ranked Greyhounds, 9-0, while the women battled the 24th ranked Indianapolis ladies before falling 5-4.
The Shorter men now possess a 5-7 record, while the women stand at 7-5.
In men's action, the doubles team of Louis Tourtois and Jimmy Kerjouan, as well as Talha Zubair and Arthur Tourlousse, fell 8-4. Patrick Sanders and Robert Watson fell 8-2, as the Greyhounds took a 3-0 advantage after doubles play.
The Indianapolis men swept all six singles matches on their way to a 9-0 defeat of the Hawks. Zubair battled Christoph Drechsler at number two but fell in both sets, 6-2. At number five, Sanders fell 6-3 and 6-2 to Marco Razo.
In women's contest, the Lady Hawks fought before falling to the Greyhounds by a 5-4 score.
Shorter led after doubles action, with two of the Lady Hawks teams winning their matches. Ornella Frere and Agnes Brun won at number one doubles, 8-5, over Florence Renard and Hanna Volikova. At number three, the team of Sicquena Sinclair and Daniela Chipe defeated Selenay Heper and Paige Olsen, 8-6.
Although Shorter held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, the Greyhounds took four of six singles matches on their way to a 5-4 defeat of the Lady Hawks. Shorter won at the two and six spots in singles play, as Brun and Julie Rinderknech won their matches.
Both of the Hawks tennis teams will be back in action on March 23rd against Auburn University-Montgomery. First serve is set for 2 PM EST from Montgomery, Alabama.
