ROME -- Shorter women's tennis topped West Georgia Thursday afternoon to keep a perfect record in Gulf South Conference play.
With the win, the Lady Hawks improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the GSC.
Shorter jumped out to an early lead, sweeping doubles play to set the tone for the match.
Ornella Frere and
Agnes Brun topped Sara Watson and Sierra Brown 8-2.
Cassandra Wennestrom and
Julie Rinderknech defeated Gabrielle Chanthaphaeng and Taylor Lefton 8-3. And,
Daniela Chipe and
Sicquena Sinclair turned in an 8-4 win over Jordan England and Shelby Brown.
In singles play, the Lady Hawks kept the momentum earning wins in all but one matchup. Frere topped Watson 6-3, 6-3 at number one. While, Brun earned a straight sets win over Lefton 6-0, 6-0. Wennestrom kept the streak going with a 6-3, 6-1 over Chantaphaeng at number three. Shorter's lone loss of the day came at number four as
Monika Gredzinski fell to England in three games (6-4, 4-6, 10-5). Chipe put the Lady Hawks back in the win column with a victory at number five over Whitney Maples (6-1, 6-1), and Rinderknech followed that with a win at number six 6-3, 6-4 over Brown. Sinclair also turned in a victory for Shorter, playing number seven, topping Jamie Bryant 8-4.
Shorter's women returned to action Friday at Reinhardt, and will take on GSC for Delta State Saturday morning beginning at 10:00am at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
