ROME -- Shorter Tennis swept Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon to start Gulf South Conference play on a high note. The Lady Hawks won 9-0, while the Hawks dropped one match to earn the win 8-1.
After sweeping doubles, 8-1, 8-0, and 8-1, respectively, the Lady Hawks kept the streak going with a sweep of all doubles matches.
Ornella Frere topped Lauren Woeg 6-3, 6-4.
Agnes Brun earned the win 6-1, 6-0 over Rachel Farmer.
Cassandra Wennestrom defeated Rebecca Johnson 6-0, 6-0.
Daniela Chipe posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Carley Lone; while,
Julie Rinderknech swept all games against Tyler Naples 6-0, 6-0. And,
Sicquena Sinclair topped Melody Mays 6-0, 6-1.
Shorter's men also took a 3-0 lead into doubles with 8-2, 8-3, and 8-2 wins, respectively.
Talha Surmawala defeated Eric Mueller 6-3, 6-3 in his first start at number one singles; while
Jimmy Kerjouan topped Nick Wiseman 6-0, 6-2 at number two.
Arthur Amat posted the win 6-1, 6-2 over Daniel D'Alto.
Patrick Sanders topped Austin Essary (6-1, 6-1) and
Robert Watson turned in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nick Cotros. The Hawks lone loss of the day came at number six where Abel Kim topped
Mason Barnette 6-3, 6-3.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Monday, February 15, against West Georgia beginning at 2:00pm at the Walt Attaway Tennis Center. Both teams will then play at North Georgia on Wednesday at 2:00pm.
