Box Score BOX SCOREWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 2015 baseball season came to a halt Saturday for the Shorter Hawks when they were handed an 11-5 defeat by Toccoa Falls in the National Christian College Athletic Association South Region Tournament.
The Hawks, who were the defending regional champions, close out the season with a 20-24 record.
Against Toccoa Falls, two innings proved too much for the Hawks to overcome, although they did respond after the Eagles opened the game plating five runs in their first at-bat.
In the bottom of the first, Shorter answered with a three-run rally, the first coming on a wild pitch and the other two runs coming via an RBI single by
Zach Santos and on a sacrifice fly by
Ian Redetzky.
Trailing 6-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Hawks narrowed the gap when they scored twice, one coming on a lead-off solo home run by Redetzky and the other when
Bryan Mathews came home on a wild pitch.
That, however, was as close as Shorter would get as Toccoa Falls exploded for five more runs on five hits – three of those on a three-run homer – to all but seal the win.
George Ragsdale and
Dustin Lawson led Shorter's nine-hit attack with two hits each, while starter
Russell Crosby suffered the loss.
