Sailfish hand Hawks first NCCAA Region setback

Box Score NCCAA SOUTH REGION SCHEDULE/RESULTS

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Shorter baseball team will now have to win three games in one day if they want to keep the National Christian College Athletic Association South Region title.

In a battle between the lone two unbeaten teams Friday night, the Hawks were handed a 2-1 defeat by host Palm Beach Atlantic forcing Shorter into a must-win situation on Saturday when the Hawks face Toccoa Falls at 11 a.m.

The winner of that game advances to the championship to take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m. with an "if needed" game to follow at 5.

Against Palm Beach, the Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Zach Santos doubled to left-center field and came around to score on Ian Redetzky's RBI single.

But after being kept in check by Shorter starter Colton Cross, who held the Sailfish hitless over the first four innings, Palm Beach struck for a pair of runs on their only two hits of the game.

The Hawks were unable to respond in the final two stanzas of the scheduled seven-inning game, ending the night scattering seven hits while leaving seven runners stranded on base.

Cross ended the game yielding the two hits and struck out six batters, while Dylan Riner and Tyler Trenary had two hits each.
