ROME --Â The Hawks and Lady Hawks swept Young Harris Thursday afternoon in non-conference tennis action at the Rome-Floyd Tennis Center.
Shorter's women move to 8-3 on the year with the win; while the men improve to 4-7 after upsetting the 48
th-ranked Mountain Lions.
In the Hawks 6-3 win over Young Harris, Shorter jumped out to an early lead by sweeping doubles play.
Alexis Catillon and
Louis Tourtois topped Sebastian Edin and Raul Quevedo 8-8, 7-4. The pair of
Arthur Amat and
Patrick Sanders defeated Cole Cates and Brecht Vangrinsven 8-2, and
Robert Watson and
Talha Surmawala came away with the win against Daniel Tiboldi and Fredrico Terreni 9-7.
Shorter then secured the win with by taking three of the six singles matched. Surmawala topped Tiboldi (6-4, 6-1) and Sanders defeated Cole Cates (6-1, 6-4).
The Lady Hawks led 2-1 after doubles as
Agnes Brun and
Ornella Frere topped Eva Castiglioni and Laura Sanchez 8-4 and
Sicquena Sinclair and
Daniela Chipe defeated Kadie Hudgins and Carolina Hernandez 8-0.
Shorter earned the win, taking three singles matches for the 5-4 final score. Brun came away with the win over Aimee Dorley (6-1, 6-1),
Samya El Hsissen defeated Elin Rundcrantz (6-3, 6-1), and Sinclair topped Hernandez (6-3, 6-3).
Both teams will be back in action April 1 as they travel to Columbus, Ga. to take on Columbus State in a non-conference matchup beginning at 2:00pm.Â
