ROME -- The Hawks split the weekend, topping Gadsden State 9-0 on Friday before falling to Lewis University 5-4 Saturday.
In the win over Gadsden State the Hawks never trailed, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and keeping the momentum going in singles to blank the Cardinals.
It was a hard fought battle with the Flyers Saturday, as Shorter trailed 2-1 after doubles, but came back in singles to fall by just one point.
Talha Surmawala and
Robert Watson were the lone pair to win their doubles match as they topped Tim Stewart and Alan Fijalkowski 8-1.
In singles, the Hawks took three of the six matches as Surmawala (6-4, 6-0),
Alexis Catillon (6-0, 6-0), and
Patrick Sanders (6-1, 6-2) each earned wins.
Shorter will now turn its attention to the first matches of conference play as they travel to Lee University Wednesday, March 4, for a 2:00pm start.
