Americus, Ga. --Â Shorter tennis was back to the courts for a new season Saturday, and came home with two wins. The Lady Hawks topped Georgia Southwestern 9-0, and the Hawks turned in an 8-1 win.
On the women's side, Shorter cruised to the win, blanking the Hurricanes. The Lady Hawks led 3-0 after doubles as the pair of
Agnes Brun/
Ornella Frere earned the win 8-1,
Samya El Hsissen/
Aurore Beltrando topped Anna Kate Shaw/Sydnee Smith 8-2, and
Sicquena Sinclair/
Daniela Chipe defeated Anneliese Leahy/Jamie Thomas 8-1.
In singles, the Lady Hawks continued where they left off. Frere earned her first win at no. 1 singles (6-3, 6-0). Newcomer, Brun, posted her first Shorter win at no. 2 (6-0, 6-1). El Hsissen, playing no. 3, won (6-0, 6-1) and Beltrando at no. 4 won (6-1, 6-1). Chipe topped Thomas (6-4, 6-0) and Sinclair won (6-1, 6-4).
On the men's side, the Hawks also got off to a good start in 2015, only dropping one match on the day. In doubles,

Alexis Catillon defeated Jake Koonce/Steven Blythe 8-4.
Arthur Amat and
Talha Surmawala topped Oliver Marshall/Abel Acuna-Moreno 8-5, and
Robert Watson/
Arthur Tourlousse earned the win 8-2 over Joel Landis and Justin Ralston.
In singles, the Hawks kept things going. Tortois earned his first win of the season, playing at no. 1 (6-2, 6-2). Newcomers, Surmawala and Amat posted their first Shorter wins (6-1, 7-6, 6-0) and (7-5, 6-3), respectively. Acuna-Moreno earned the Hurricanes only win on the day, topping Catillon (6-4, 7-6). Shorter then closed out the win with
Patrick Sanders defeat of Rolston (7-6, 6-4), and Tourlousse's win (6-1, 6-2).
Both the Hawks and Lady Hawks will be back in action Wednesday, February 11, as North Georgia comes to Rome for a 2:00pm first serve.
