ROME --Â The Lady Hawks suffered their first loss of the season Friday afternoon, falling to Auburn Montgomery, 6-3; while the Hawks also fell to the Warhawks, 9-0.
Shorter's women held the lead 2-1 after doubles as the pair of
Ornella Frere and
Agnes Brun topped Alice Baudeigne and Claudine Maheu (9-7) and the duo of
Samya El Hsissen and
Aurore Beltrando defeated Paula Diaz and Anna Rudolfova (8-4). AUM then sealed the win by taking five of the six singles matches. The Lady Hawks lone win in singles came at number two as Brun topped Diaz (6-3, 6-3).
Despite falling 9-0 for the second straight match, the Hawks put up a fight. At number one doubles Louis Tortois and
Alexis Catillon came up just short, 9-7. And at number three singles,
Talha Surmawala and Miguel Grifol went to a third set, but was ultimately Grifol earned the win (4-6, 6-1, 11-9).
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Tuesday, February 16, as they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to begin Gulf South Conference play at West Georgia. Matches are set to begin at 2:00pm. Both teams will then travel to Livingston, Ala. for the men's first GSC test at West Alabama. Matches are also set to begin at 2:00pm.
