Mobile, Ala.--Tennis improves to 16-7 on the season and 2-0 at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship with a first day sweep of Indiana Wesleyan and University of Northwestern. The Lady Hawks made quick work of their opponents on Tuesday; winning both matches by 5-0 final scores.
Against Indiana Wesleyan, Shorter took the lead 3-0 after doubles play.
Candice Laurent and
Aurelie Gaborit topped Katie Wilson and Kim Mella 8-4.
Samya El Hsissen and
Aurore Beltrando defeated Rachel Bottroff and Rachael Heinger 9-7, and
Ornella Frere and
Sicquena Sinclair earned the win 8-3 over Courtney Siepman and Kelsey Vessels.
The Lady Hawks captured the win as Frere topped Mella (6-1, 6-0) and El Hsissen defeated Heiniger (6-0, 6-0).
Against Northwestern, Shorter once again cruised to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Laurent and Gaborit teamed up again to defeat Megan Johnson and Kelly Johnson 8-5. El Hsissen and Beltrando topped Karen Moe and Tina Matetich 8-1. Frere and Sinclair earned the win over Rachel Bostrom and Amber Gallaway 8-0.
In singles play, Laurent defeated M. Johnson (6-0, 6-0) and
Daniela Chipe topped Bostrom (6-0, 6-0).
The Lady Hawks will finish up pool play Wednesday morning at 10:00am EST as they take on Dallas Baptist. Both teams enter Wednesday's match with 2-0 records in the tournament. The top two teams after pool play will face off against the top two teams from Pool A in the semi-finals on Thursday morning.
