NCCAA Tennis National Championship begins Tuesday for Lady Hawks

Mobile, Ala.--Women's tennis; who finished the regular season 14-7 overall and 6-2 in Gulf South Conference will now turn its attention to the National Christian College Athletic Association, as it begins pool play at the National Championship Tuesday morning.

The Lady Hawks will first take on Indiana Wesleyan at 8:30am, followed by the University of Northwestern – St. Paul at 2:30pm. Shorter will wrap up pool play on Wednesday morning at 9:00am against Dallas Baptist.

The top two teams will then square off against the top two teams from Pool A – Azusa Pacific University, Southern Nazarene University, Campbellsville University and Roberts Wesleyan College – for the semifinal matches on Thursday morning.

Shorter enters the tournament having won 7 of its last 10 matches, and with each member of the Lady Hawks posting winning records over that span. Aurore Beltrando leads the way with an 8 match win streak, and Sicquena Sinclair is next having won 5 in a row entering the championship.

In doubles play Shorter fairs just as well; the pair of Beltrando and Samya El Hsissen have won 9 of their last 10 and 7 in a row.

Seniors, Candice Laurent and Aurelie Gaborit both enter the championship with winning records on the season. Laurent, at number one singles, posts a 16-4 season record, while Gaborit comes in a 10-5 when playing at number two. The pair teams up in doubles to post a 12-7 record on the season, but are looking to get back in the win column after dropping their last two matches.

Sidelined for much of the season, Ornella Frere has proven to be a valuable addition to the Lady Hawks winning her last 4 singles matches and posting an overall 7-2 record. Daniela Chipe rounds out the lineup for Shorter posting an 11-9 record for the season.
