Hawks, Lady Hawks split with Alabama Huntsville and Delta State

Last week the Hawks and Lady Hawks took to the court in two Gulf South Conference tennis match-ups. On Thursday, the teams travelled to Alabama Huntsville where the women earned the win, 8-1, while the men fell to the Chargers, 8-1. Saturday, play shifted back to the Walt Attaway Tennis Center where the Lady Hawks topped the Lady Statesmen, 7-1, and the Hawks dropped the decision to Delta State, 5-1.

The wins improve Shorter's women to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play; Shorter's men, however, move to 3-15 on the season and 1-5 in the GSC.

Thursday, the Lady Hawks earned the win 8-1 over Alabama Huntsville; after sweeping doubles play and winning all but one singles match. The Chargers only win came at No. 5 singles as Aude Rappaz topped Daniela Chipe 6-4, 7-5.

Saturday, Shorter's women defeated the Delta State 7-1; again sweeping doubles, and only dropping on singles match. The Lady Statesmen's lone win came at No. 3 singles.

On the men's side, the Hawks fell to the Chargers 8-1. Shorter earned it's only win at No. 2 doubles as Marc Guerry and Arturo Lifshitz topped Bruno Medeiros and Ian Wisener, 8-3.

Against the Statesmen, the Hawks were defeated 5-1; with the lone win coming at No. 3 doubles as Nikola Pavlovic and Robert Watson earned the victory, 8-3, over Leon Smart and Daniel Veiga.

Tennis will be back in action Wednesday, April 9, as Dalton State visits the Walt Attaway Tennis Center for a 2pm start.
