Valdosta, Ga.--Women's tennis claimed the National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) South Region Championship and a berth in the national championship tournament with 5-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Lady Hawks a 14-7 overall record for the season.
Shorter cruised to the win; taking two of three in doubles and making quick work of the Sailfish in singles to earn the win.
Samya El Hsissen and
Aurore Beltrando topped Jessica Wharton and Maja Jovic at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Sicquena Sinclair and
Ornella Frere defeated Vilja Vahatalo and Leyla Taracena, 8-4. Palm Beach Atlantic's lone win came at No. 1 doubles as Veena Vasquez and Yoanna Peshev topped
Candice Laurent and
Aurelie Gaborit, 9-8.
The Lady Hawks earned the win as El Hsissen, Frere and Beltrando each won their singles matches to give Shorter the 5-1 advantage. El Hsissen topped Wharton (6-4, 6-4), Frere defeated Vahatalo (6-2, 6-1), and Beltrando earned the win (6-0, 6-0) over Liddy Robinson.
Shorter will now begin preparations for the national championship tournament that will take place in Mobile, Ala. May 6-10.
