Box Score ROME--Shorter Baseball fell to No. 7 Delta State Friday afternoon, 10-2. The loss drops the Hawks to 9-27 on the season and 6-16 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Statesmen took an early lead, scoring three times in the first inning. Shorter answered in the bottom of the inning to plate one run as
Dylan Riner scored on a fly out from
Zach Santos. In the fifth Riner delivered an RBI single to bring in
Charlie Gillis to cut the lead to one.
Delta State added six runs on four hits in the sixth inning to put away the game, and added another run in the ninth for the 10-2 final score.
Michael Manley earned the win for the Statesmen; pitching the complete game while allowing two runs on six hits with nine strikeout.
Russell Crosby recorded the loss after pitching 5.1 innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Riner and Gillis finished the day with two hits for the Hawks, while
Dustin Evans and
Jesse Gavigan recorded one hit each.
Shorter will conclude the series with Delta State with a doubleheader beginning at 12pm Saturday afternoon.
