Box Score Harrogate, Tenn.--Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead early in the game the Hawks couldn't hang on; falling to Lincoln Memorial, 13-8, in Harrogate, Tenn. Tuesday afternoon.
The loss drops Shorter to 8-22 on the season.
The Hawks scored twice in the first inning as
Zach Santos delivered an RBI double and
Ian Redetzky connected on an RBI single. Shorter added to the lead with one in both the second and third innings, to make it a 4-0 game. In the second,
Dylan Riner doubled to plate
Chad Ikerd;
Jacob Forrest singled in the third to bring in Redetzky.
Lincoln Memorial scored five times in the fourth inning to take the lead, but the Hawks tied the game as Santos hit his third homerun of the season. The Railsplitters regained the lead in the bottom of the inning by adding four runs to take the lead, 9-5.
Shorter rallied in the sixth to cut the lead to two, scoring twice.
Brack Bagwell singled with one out in the inning, and
Charlie Gillis followed with a walk; one batter later, Riner doubled to plate Bagwell, and Gillis came in to score on a line out by
Dustin Evans.
Lincoln Memorial added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as three runs scored, and in the eighth with a run. Ikerd added an RBI single in the ninth for the Hawks for the, 13-8, final score.
Austin Pittman earned the win for the Railsplitters; allowing no runs on two hits over 1.2 innings of work. Zach Whitaker recorded the loss for Shorter; pitching two 2.0 innings, while allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits with one strikeout.
Santos, Redetzky, and Ikerd each recorded three hits; while Riner, Forrest, and Bagwell each had two.
The Hawks will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Livingston, Ala. for a three game, Gulf South Conference series with West Alabama.
