ROME--Saturday, March 8, the Hawks along with Rome Gastroenterology Associates will be hosting the 1st Annual Walk for Colon Cancer Awareness on the campus of Shorter University. The event begins at 10:30 a.m., from the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex, with the walk around campus and concludes with the Hawks doubleheader against the Chargers of Alabama Huntsville.
Registration for the walk is $20; with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society for Colon Cancer Research.
Prior to Saturday's first game; which begins at 12:00 p.m., colon cancer survivor, Jean Sheffield will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Fans are encouraged to wear blue to support the Hawks, as well as, to show their support for colon cancer awareness.
Shorter enters the weekend series on a three game win streak, after topping Union in game two of last Saturday's doubleheader, and winning both games at Albany State on Wednesday. In Wednesday's second game pitcher,
Travis McPherson, set a new Hawks' record for strikeouts in a game; striking out 20 batters.
