Pensacola, Fla.--Sunday tennis travelled to Pensacola, Fla. to take on West Florida and Florida Tech. The Lady Hawks split the day; winning the match over FIT, but falling to UWF. The Hawks, however, dropped both matches.
Shorter's women move to 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Gulf South Conference; while the men move to 1-8 and 0-2 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks earned the win over the Panthers of Florida Tech, 8-1, and dropped the match to the Argos of West Florida, 9-0.
The women lead the match with FIT 2-1 after doubles play and swept single competition to wrap up the win. Against UWF,
Samya El Hsissen played well for the Lady Hawks, as her doubles team (with Aroure Beltrando) came up just short, 8-6, and during singles, she was defeated by a final score of 5-7, 6-2.
The Hawks dropped the match with FIT 6-3, and fell to UWF, 9-0.
In the loss to the Panthers, the men earned wins in three of the six singles matches.
Marc Guerry defeated Patrick Hernandez (6-4, 7-6).
Louis Tourtois topped Matic Leskovar (6-2, 4-1). And,
Alexis Catillon defeated Daniel Armellino (6-3, 4-6, 10-2). Against UWF, the doubles team of Catillon/Tourtois came up short 8-5.
Shorter will be back in action March 12, as they travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on Jacksonville State University. Matches are set to begin at 2pm.
